CloudKitchens customer spotlight: Meek’s Vegan Pizza

Founded in 2021 in Houston, Texas, Meek’s Vegan Pizza has become a staple for vegan pizza lovers seeking healthy options without sacrificing flavor. Owner Demetrius Walker started Meek’s as a way to help his son transition into his vegan lifestyle. He had three objectives while creating the perfect pizza, it had to be delicious, healthy, and cruelty-free. Once he obtained the perfect pizza, the next step was opening the restaurant for everyone else to try it as well. 

Once Demetrius decided he wanted to open a pizza place, he realized that opening a brick and mortar location from scratch would be unaffordable. On top of the expensive brick and mortar buildout, it would take a year or more to get and up and running. Q: Why did you join CloudKitchens?

A: Once I realized I wanted to open a pizza place, I looked at a variety of options. Starting a brick and mortar location from scratch was simply unaffordable and would take up to a year to get opened. I was eager to get started sooner. Q: How has your business grown since starting with CloudKitchens?

A: In less than two years, my business has grown from an idea in my head to something that generates about $30K in sales monthly. It has attracted interest from partners in Chicago, Dallas, and Austin. Locations will be coming online in each of those places shortly. With Shark Tank’s Daymond John, the NAACP, and Pepsi recently highlighting my business during Black Entrepreneurs Day at New York’s Apollo Theater, my business has become even more well known nationally. The RZA from Wu-Tang Clan, Bloomberg, The Houston Chronicle, and numerous others have touted the benefits and appeal of Meek’s Vegan Pizza. To sum it up, this business is headed for household name status with the right funding in the near future!

Q: What was life like before CloudKitchens? What is it like now?

A: Before CloudKitchens, I was working in economic development, figuring out ways to attract and retain businesses in the Houston area. I spent my time pouring over data and research, attempting to create jobs and grow our county’s tax base. But I wanted to create jobs directly…jobs that served my local community and helped it to thrive healthwise. What makes me most proud about my business are the calls, texts, emails, and direct messages I receive from parents and customers who tell me my food has assisted in their transition to a plant-based life. In my community, far too many people succumb to heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. Being able to provide cholesterol free food that helps to limit those outcomes is most fulfilling to me.

Q: Would you recommend CloudKitchens to others in the restaurant industry? Why?

A: I would certainly recommend CloudKitchens to others in the restaurant industry. First of all, CloudKitchens makes it easy to prove the viability of your concept. You can get started immediately and receive assistance in getting your restaurant off the ground.
